clothesline baby shower cake

I have one sister, and I adore her, and I love doing things for her. Today was her baby shower - she is expecting a girl in February - and I got to make the cake! When I had Bug, my sister bought her about five zillion outfits and arranged them all on a clothesline. Tiny, gorgeous outfits, one after another, pulled out of a basket. Even though it's been five years, I thought it would be fun to echo the clothesline motif in the cake. She loves chocolate, so naturally, the cake was chocolate, and I used vanilla icing tinted with just a hint of pink to show off the fondant decorations. I cut out tiny shirts, onesies, dresses, overalls, bibs, and buttons from pink, purple, turquoise, and gold fondant. I also used fondant for the clothesline poles, and I piped the clothesline and clothespins in frosting. It looked so cute, and it tasted great! Best of all, my sister loved it.

Thanks to all twelve (yes, twelve!) hostesses for a beautiful shower and for the opportunity to give my sister a special gift. I can't wait to meet my lovely new niece!

What a darling cake that's not the typical baby shower cake. BRAVO for your creativity!
