aw, nuts!

I am standing at the open kitchen window, washing dishes, when a delicious smell wafts past. Bacon? No... waffles? Mmm, maybe. But who's making waffles in the middle of the aftern... dang it! Burned the nuts again.

When you're toasting nuts, they go from zero to burned like that. Despite that I was smart enough to set the oven timer - this has happened to me before, you see - it wasn't until I was turning it off that I connected the two... ringing timer... burned pecans!

Let's try that again, shall we? The cranberry-pecan rugelach filling is too delicious to be marred by charred nuts!

Ha... this is why I prefer to toast them in a skillet on the stove top.
