two-toned ribbon tower cake

A dinner party for out-of-towners, one of whom is celebrating a birthday... That's all I need to hear: cake time! Our guests were Josh's good friend from work, his father, and his father's family. In other words, other than Jason, I didn't know any of them. I figured lemon would be a not-too-controversial flavor choice, but as the birthday girl was turning 13, I wanted to do something fun and whimsical with the decoration. I found a picture of Martha Stewart's ruffle tower cake, and not only did it look amazing, I got to try my hand at two-tone frosting. See if you can spot the yellow and white. To achieve this look, simply tint half your frosting. Lay the piping bag down on the counter and fill the left side with one color frosting and the right side with the other color. It's not foolproof, and it would be easier with a second set of hands to hold the bag open, but it was actually easier than I thought.

Very festive, and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
